PE ITTE Regional Network

As part of a national project (funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools), aimed at raising the quality of Physical Education Initial Teacher Training and Education in England, a regional network was established to support PE ITTE professionals with their professional development needs. Regional Co-ordinators were appointed to conduct audits of CPD needs, to plan responses that helped meet those needs and to establish structures for the sharing and continued development of good practice. Thanks must go to all involved in what was a very successful project.

Funding has now ceased for this project but given the great success of the High Quality PE ITT Project in rekindling the spirit of collaborative support that underpinned the original establishment of the PE ITT Network, means have been sought by which this and other positive outcomes of the Project might be sustained and developed over the longer term. Repositioning the PE ITT Network under afPE's aegis is felt to offer the greatest potential in this regard. PE ITTE providers will now have sustainable access to as wide a range as possible of professional support opportunities, which will include access to funding streams that might not have been possible had the Network continued to operate as previous. Access to the Network will continue to be open to all PE ITTE providers but afPE members will enjoy discounted rates with regard to related conferences and resources (as well as the additional benefits afforded by membership of the Association).

Currently, the views of PE ITTE providers are being sought with regard to the most appropriate means of supporting them in future and it is proposed that the next opportuntiy to meet will be at the PE ITTE Conference scheduled for 16th/17th April 2008. Further details will be posted as developments begin to bear fruit.
