The Elton Report was a significant report, commissioned by the Government in 1989. It is a seminal document that addresses the issue of behaviour management in a positive and planned way. It formed the basis for much of the current legislation and offered guidance for schools in drawing up their own 'behaviour policies' and 'codes of conduct'. It can be found at:

The Canter Model: Assertively Taking Charge and The Fred Jones Model: Body Language, Incentive Systems, and Providing Efficient Help. This is a useful and well-known framework for thinking about effective teacher behaviour and behaviour management in the classroom. It is based on 7 principles and 5 steps which are clearly outlined on the web site at: http://www.humboldt.edu/~tha1/canter.html
